 Integrated systems and animal models

Biochemical, cellular and molecular biological findings made by investigators in the department are incorporated into and validated in animal models used to understand human disease. A variety of transgenic, knock out and conditional mutant mice have been developed by the faculty based on molecular and cellular mechanisms discovered in their laboratories. These include animal models of neurological, inflammatory and cardiovascular diseases including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, autism, Crone's disease, peripheral neuropathies and neuropathic pain, hypertension, heart failure and cancer.
