Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases

Cardiovascular and metabolic diseases are the leading causes of mortality worldwide each year  and represent a huge burden for individuals and society. The research in the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Division is focused on understanding the pathogenesis, molecular mechanisms and cell signaling mechanisms that underlie metabolic and heart diseases. Our faculty members have made significant contributions to state of the art research in areas including inflammation, atherosclerosis, lipid and energy metabolism, and the role of mitochondria in heart failure and metabolic disease development. The ultimate goal of our Division is to integrate basic and translational research to advance scientific knowledge and improve therapeutic approaches to treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, including diabetes and obesity.
